Fans work great, drive won't open, Jan 21, 2009, 12:00 PM Reviewer: Razzerfraz
I bought 2 of these and neither would open the DVD drive. Bought the original Whisper instead and it works great.

Great fans that do their job, Aug 4, 2008, 11:27 PM Reviewer: themikester
These are by far the best fans you could stick in your 360. Installing isnt very difficult, you just have to make sure to mount the nitro switch properly. other than that my only complaint is that a couple of the led's didnt stay in the fan all the way (just a design flaw for securing the led's). With that said, buy them, it keeps the xbox a lot cooler than the stock fans.

Good product overall, but can only recommend under similar circumstances, Apr 22, 2008, 09:32 AM Reviewer: Noir
I have no had any problems with my 360 as such, the loud fan did annoy me when watching a movie and this was the main reason I bought this product. I did however find out a friend of mine's 360 died recently after working fine for 2 years. After his huge amount of hassle and time to get his xbox fixed (and hopefully not refixed, thanks Microsoft :p) and with mine soon to be out of RROD warrenty I decided to go gun-hoe and get the Whisper MAX (thus invalidating my warranty a few months early, which might perhaps be stupid, we'll see)
Anyway I took the time to install the product correctly, unlike some guides say there's no need to remove your entire motherboard and it squeezes into place quite nicely. If you intend to use the "nitro switch" feature your going to need to make a slight modification to the plastic on the rear of your xbox. I recommend it, all you need is a drill and a bit of care.
My first problem came as soon as I turned my 360 on. I must have made the fan a bit too snug (i.e tight) as I bent the metal slightly that holds the fan in place. I got an annoying clank and a whisle, so I took apart my box and made it slightly less snug (I actually only had to loosen some of the bolts). Here's however where my problems ended.
If I did recommend this fan it would be because once this thing is in nitro-mode it moves a heck of alot of air. Albeit at the price of a huge amount of fan sound (indeed worse than the original 360 fan, but perhaps not as much as the DVD drive on full..thanks Microsoft :p)
The non-nitro mode, is quite noticeable quieter than the original fan and is perhaps on par with a Wii fan, (i.e. once your sat down playing you can't hear it even if you try)
My score of 4 stars reflects firstly the poor documentation that came with the fan and why include 2 heatsinks? I honestly believe these sorta things cause more problems and infact insulate chips when placed on them, so I didn't use them.
The Whisper Max does have another problem however, it still doesn't give me complete piece-of-mind. Why is there a nitro switch, when what we should have is "quiet-mode" and "smart-mode" where the fan automattically switches to the nitro mode at a particular temperature if they were really good they would give us the option of when this occured. Considering this is a marketed product I really feel these are needed to ensure piece of mind, which is exactly what this product is aiming for.
Overall Impressions......I'll probably rarely use the nitro mode, unless I run into trouble. And now that's the problem isn't it. Its why unless your not bothered by huge amounts of fan sound, this product isn't really worth installing. Honestly I can't determine if in quiet mode this thing moves the same amount of air as the original fan or not, I know they say it moves more, but of course they do they are trying to sell you the thing. If you manage to find a side by side comparison video of someone with a temperature sensor and it comes out on top go buy one if your in a similar position as me. Otherwise prey that Microsoft didn't intentionally build a short lifespan into the 360 and that your one of the lucky ones....

Xbox would not start after installing - one fan would not move - one fan broken - lousy product.
